Things are moving forward
“Once it’s up and running,” says my daughter with a smile. After the initial traffic jams and delays, things are now progressing. The substructure is finished and the supporting pillars are in place. As promised, Danny regularly sends us videos and pictures, which we are first relieved about and then delighted with.
It’s hot in Spain at the moment. So it’s a real achievement to build a house in this heat. And so far no complaints from the neighbours about the noise. We had already written in the previous article that construction can be stopped for noise reasons (July and August). Danny has ordered his crew to “keep it down”. So no loud radio, no shouting and no disturbing anyone.
Once the floor slab of the main rooms has been poured, the walls of the actual house will follow. In our experience, this is the time when you get an idea of what living in the future house will feel like. Only then can you get a feel for the space. Is it bright enough? What exactly is the view like, how are the walls spaced and the size of the windows and, above all, are the rooms really big enough?
When we were planning, we both agreed we didn’t need a big house — in Spain, you live outside for most of the year anyway. But when it comes to defining the rooms and determining the area per room, you quickly end up with 200 m2. We are sure 200 m2 is a perfect size for our needs. We’ll see what we think when the walls are up.
What’s not really progressing are the plans for the kitchen. We contacted the kitchen builder suggested by Danny and Joselyn, went there, selected materials and looked at cupboards, drawers, lamps and accessories. Even the first quote took ages to arrive. And then it was ten times higher than Danny had budgeted for. Then – admittedly a little late – we completely redesigned the kitchen with a floor plan (we’ll write about this in the next post). The changes have now been requested for more than 4 weeks and we haven’t received a reply.
Of course, there are alternatives to the aforementioned kitchen manufacturer. One of them is a Danish company with a branch in Valencia. Of course we’ve already been there and had a look around. Great materials etc. and … unfortunately this offer was also a long time coming, was ultimately rather thrown together and not put together very carefully. We are now waiting for the offer to be corrected again. Let’s see when they get round to it 😉
Our grandchildren have recently become very interested in the project. They are happy with us, ask about the construction progress and can hardly wait to spend the next summer holidays with us, but above all in the pool.
